….the Internet must become a safer place for children. A medium that the
children can use to learn, create, connect, discover. Children themselves must learn to
check the quality of information that they receive from the net. They must learn to
discern between which piece of information they may submit in the net and which they may
not.“If you imagine that your computer Internet browser is
like an international airport with planes ready to take your child off to thousands of
exciting destinations, you begin to see just how immediate the Internet is. In the same
way that you wouldn't simply leave your six year old child at the airport to take the trip
alone, so it is important that you take the trip together. Clearly, there are different
boundaries for different age ranges and levels of experiences, but safety on the Internet
must be a concern for all of us who are keen to promote the interests of children.”
